Privacy Policy

What we collect in the app

• Your first name and email, which you give when you make your profile. Skinventry needs both to keep your searches, your free allowance and your reminders, and you can change them later in You, under Your details.
• A random ID that the app makes for your phone the first time you open it.
• Every search: the words you type, the brand or product a photo was read as, the companies and brands you open, and when. Each search also notes how it started (a photo, typing, or opening something from a list) and the kind of product.
• About your app: its version, whether you have Pro, and when you last opened it.
• How you use the app: which screens and features you open, such as starting a face map or asking Skin AI, whether it finished or what stopped it, which sources you tap, whether an answer was helpful, and what the paywall showed and whether you subscribed. Never your photos, your face map readings, your skin profile or anything you write to Skin AI.
• Your push notification token, if you turn on notifications. See Notifications below.

Why we collect it

• To run the app: counting your searches, preventing abuse and helping you when you contact support.
• To learn what people look up, so we can improve Skinventry.
• To email you about Skinventry.

We never sell it. There are no ads in Skinventry, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

It is linked to you

Your searches are saved with your phone’s random ID and with the first name and email on your profile. That means we can see what each person has searched.

Your choices, and deleting your data

The Share my searches switch in You controls your searches and the record of how you use the app. Turn it off and Skinventry stops saving both and deletes what it saved from its servers. Your profile and everything on your phone stay.

Delete account in You erases your name, email, searches and notification token from our servers.

You can also email support@skinventry.com to have your details and searches deleted, or to stop our emails.

How long we keep it

Your searches and how you use the app, for as long as Share my searches is on. Your profile, until you delete your account or ask us to. We delete your searches when you turn sharing off, and everything when you delete your account.

Your photos

Your photos stay on your phone. To identify a product, the app makes a smaller copy of the photo and sends it through Skinventry’s server to Anthropic, our AI provider, once. Skinventry keeps no copy, and we do not use your photos or searches to train AI models.

What stays on your phone

Your skin profile stays on your phone: your skin type, what you’re working on and the actives you use. So do your shelf, your routine and when you checked it off, all read on your phone. Your preferences stay on your phone too: what you want shown first, the allergens and ingredients you want flagged, and the certifications you look for. Flags are checked on your phone. If you describe something to flag in your own words, that text is sent through Skinventry’s server to Anthropic to turn it into flags, and Skinventry does not store it.

Your lookup history is kept on your phone as well. While Share my searches is on, your searches are also saved on our servers, as described above.

Skin AI and face maps

Nothing about Skin AI or a face map is sent until you agree on the screen the app shows first. Then, to read a face map, the app sends your face photo and close crops of each zone of it; to answer a question, it sends your message, any photo you attach, and what you've told Skinventry about your skin, your shelf, your routine and your check ins. These go through Skinventry's server to Anthropic, our AI provider, which deletes them within 30 days and doesn't train its models on them. Skinventry's server keeps no copy: it counts how many face maps and messages each phone has used, and nothing else.

Your face maps and conversations are kept on your phone, outside iCloud backup. Delete any of them, or stop using Skin AI, in Skin AI history. Because a face and its skin are health information, our consumer health data privacy policy covers them in full.

Notifications

If you turn on notifications, the app sends Skinventry your phone’s push notification token, with your app version. We use it to tell you when a lookup you asked about is ready, and to send occasional news about Skinventry, such as a new version. When you ask to be notified about a lookup, we note which lookup you are waiting for. You can turn notifications off at any time in your iPhone’s Settings.

Research about companies

Skinventry researches the product and the company behind it: ownership, manufacturing, certifications, recalls, regulatory history and similar public information. Those results are about companies, not about you, and we cache them on our servers so the next person who looks up the same product gets the answer faster.

To prevent abuse, we count requests each day by your phone’s random ID and by a hashed version of your network address.

Who helps us run Skinventry

• Supabase hosts our servers and database.
• Anthropic reads photos to identify products, researches products and companies, reads the optional text you write in your own words, and powers Skin AI and face maps. It deletes what Skin AI sends within 30 days and doesn't train on it. Skinventry does not store the photos or that text.
• Serper runs the web searches behind that research. It receives product and brand names only.
• Apple and RevenueCat handle subscriptions. Pro is sold and billed by Apple, and we use RevenueCat to confirm whether a subscription is active. They process that purchase information under their own privacy policies, and we never see your payment details.
• Vercel hosts this website.

What we never do

• We do not show advertising in the app, and no company pays to be listed, ranked or left out.
• We do not sell, rent or trade your data.
• We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

This website

skinventry.com uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views in aggregate. It does not use cookies for this.

When you arrive on the site from an AI assistant or answer engine, such as ChatGPT, Perplexity or Claude, a small first party beacon sends a request to /api/ref that records only the name of that engine and the path of the page you landed on. It records nothing about you.

When we may share information

Beyond the service providers named above, we share information only when the law requires it, for example in response to a court order, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply to the information transferred.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information that reaches our servers. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Age

Skinventry is intended for adults 21 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date above.
